1. If drought afflicts you, extend a hand,
And if generosity calls you, be more generous,

2. And pour upon the thirsty the nectar of passion,
Let not the mouth of the desirer remain bare.

3. The envious will multiply, so weave for them
From your overflowing heart, the finest response.

4. Be above them like a cloud and murmuring,
For only dew hurts not the rock.

5. The unjust throng in their disbelief,
Yet they cannot disbelieve the shining stars.

6. The envious will multiply—do not grieve,
For the first of glories is to be envied.

7. Had his face no splendor,
The face of the horizon would not seem dark.

8. The little bird may bring his jailer
Into his cramped cell, if he sings.

9. O you, the voice we long for,
The people of evil have left no (Ahmed).

10. They said, as they said, and what did it harm
Him of pure voice who wipes out right guidance?

11. Does what the lad says hurt the sun,
When the lad is bleary-eyed?!

12. Leave them be, and rise above them a fortress,
Meccan, and paint for them a scene,

13. And ride the steeds of song, saddle for them
The expanse of the horizon as verse, and be master.

14. And say to them: the age of conquests has ended,
And the like of this conquest will not be found.

15. In their ignorance they have shut the doors,
But God's door will never be shut.
