١. فِدىً لِبَني قَيسٍ وَأَفناءِ مالِكٍ
لَدى الشِسعِ مِن رِجلي إِلى الفَرقِ صاعِدا
2. One morn the Folk of Dhiraar came as though they were
Dust storms from Waddan at daybreak arriving
٢. غَداةَ أَتى قَومُ الضَريسِ كَأَنَّهم
قَطا الكُدرِ مِن وُدّانَ أَصبَحَ وارِدا
3. Never saw I a host was more generous in triumph
Or guarded a lad that day more fiercely determined
٣. فَلَم أَر جَمعاً كانَ أَكرَمَ غالِباً
وَأَحمى غُلاماً يَومَ ذَلِكَ أَطرَدا
4. We pelted them with stones and cudgels and spears
And white blades that slit through the wrist bones
٤. رَمَيناهُم بِالحُوِّ وَالكُمتِ وَالقَنا
وَبيضٍ خِفافٍ يَختَلينَ السَواعِدا
