The morning after you bid farewell, for the free man had passed away

For they had preceded me, and tears within them were red

3. Oh, woe to my soul the day I told it "be patient"
Yet I did not know that patience had left it

4. Oh, woe to my heart, how it spent the night tossing and turning
On embers that fate persists in igniting

5. I scattered tears over your grave, my friend

6. They say after death we march on to stars
Where there is neither death nor grave

7. So by God, tell me, to which star shall I go
After my life ends, so we can live forever

8. In an eternal abode, safe from misery and harm
Oh grave of my beloved, upon you clouds of pardon burst forth

9. Each time dawn rises
Oh seed of my heart that I planted in his soil

As love grows and turns green

11. I shall live well with my love though his course in life
