1. They said I was slain by a sword in his hands,
Though I claimed it was not, and I see no blood.
١. قالوا قُتلت بِصارِمٍ من طَرفِهِ
فيما زَعمت وَما نَراهُ بَقاني
2. I replied the finest eggs precede the yolk,
So it passed me by and left no sacrifice.
٢. فَأَجَبتُ خير البيض ما سَبَقَ الدِما
فَمَضى وَلَم يَتَخَضَّب القُربانِ
