1. O you who blame, be gentle
With one who has melted with love.

2. Reproach brings no relief,
Rather it increases longing.

3. For he has become deaf
So be still, lest you suffer.

4. Our love for something blinds
And deafens, I said truly.

5. Whenever you say, turn away,
My heart turns to face it.

6. Do not see love as a descent,
Rather the wise ascend through it.

7. How often, O my heart,
Does the brightness of the pit flutter you?

8. All that is sweet in love
Comes from torment encountered in it.

9. So destruction in it is life.
Be destroyed if you wish to remain.
