1. Disease and hardship have clothed me,
Love of the beauty of Ghayda enslaved me,

2. She took me from myself and hid me,
Reason became subservient to her love.

3. She shed my blood for love, then said:
"My dear, you loved me foolishly."

4. If you want our union, your death's the price;
None attains union who excellence lacks.

5. Purify your eye with flowing tears,
To cleanse it of all but the only Beloved.

6. Cast off from yourself, oh loose one, my passion!
Let none but our face be before you.

7. Give your soul, it's little with us,
Content, say not "Who shed my blood?"

8. A drop raises you, if you desire;
Or leave mentioning our nearness, oh owned one.

9. Turn us to another intention,
And keep to the door of shyness and shame.

10. Whoever comes to our door, we draw near;
Those are our customs, whoever came before.

11. Make poverty an intercessor for you; you'll be enriched.
Blessed is neediness, our religion and twisting.

12. How many helpless lovers manifested!
They got from us what they intended, and the like.

13. Such is the way of lovers, so follow it,
And leave the ignorant, withdrawn blamer.
