1. You wandered, O this one, the wandering of a camel,
And the absence at the prince grew long.

2. You stayed two days and their night,
And a third mingling with much goodness.

3. A day of an Arab with his kindness—
If the days grew long a day is short—

4. It has songs not boring,
Of it, and it does not breed with disdain.

5. Not blamed, O Abu Ja'far,
That you prefer frivolity and a day of joy.

6. So make for us from you a share, so what
If you were about our gathering aloof,

7. And come to us not lowered,
May God make you the best fate.

8. If there is not with me singing or
A lute, then with me is the moon with stars abound,

9. And the mention with knowledge that has passed
With its people the changing of times.

10. And it is new with us its path—
Its signs contain it from us the breasts.

11. So praise to God for every
First and last, and to my Lord the Thankful.
