1. He who created you, I do not love anyone but you
My heart has forbidden sharing you with anyone else

2. I wish I knew, O most precious of all people - may all people sacrifice themselves for you
What has made you so aloof and indifferent towards me

3. The night keeps watch, whenever yearning for you keeps it awake
It respects the absence of the full moon, even though it is its brother

4. My gentle words have melted away into your refined meanings
And your branch of thought has reached the lips of my poem

5. O you who calls to harmony, leave those who do not respond
Do not ask me how I am, between a slanderer and a guard

6. I do not complain of misery, except to the doctor
Love dwelt in my heart, before the creation of mankind

7. So forgive me, O virtuous one, this was not of my own choosing
And turn your poetry away from the prohibition of the righteous

8. And be conscious of God, do not spread it in this depressed market
O cupbearer of wine, with glances and cups

9. Do not pretend with me, my intoxication is with you, not henbane
