1. My reason softened when I loved you, so it cannot express anything but the most delicate meanings.
Do not blame me, for this is neither my own doing nor my eloquence and rhetoric.

2. Rather, I saw your beauty in the mirror of my thoughts- my tongue became tied.
You are all beauty, O you whom I concealed from people with some beauty.

3. May Allah not cure my heart of love for you, even if it hopes for cure after a while.
Indeed, sickness for you is your manifest blessing, its traces evident on the bodies.

4. Did the limbs not flutter with pain, serious as if they were desires?
I heard the melody of sighing painfully, yet it did not burden me like songs do.

5. And if the tale of glimpses flows, in it hearts pound with palpitation.
Or do hearts not dance to your coquetry? And the heart is a bird of the branches.

6. You filled my eyelids so the kohl did not excel from being united with its place.
Since they saw you, my eyes have denied recognizing sleep, just as they denied recognizing your beauty a second time.

7. God knows that none but you stirs my heart, even if it flows upon my tongue.
You are my soul, my comfort, my life, my existence, my hearing and my sight.

8. Your imagination appears to me while awake. Do you know a specter that hurts those awake?
This is the vision of hearts, so will you one day allow the vision of entities?

9. I am rich in love for you, but poor to your enchanting beauty.
Come back, even if impossible, your slave, and allow the mirage to come to the thirsty.

10. My longing increased due to my lack of patience. Is there any compensation for that loss?
How can I be alone without even the specter of imagination, while the sentry of slumber is upon my eyelids?

11. My tears flowed in two seas: one from the affliction of my heart, the other from the blood of my body.
Then it softened after sleep drowned, and the ship of sorrows anchored.

12. My blamer transgressed while a neighbor- but can the light of certainty be extinguished by false accusations?
He whose heart is not empty of love is not related to purity.

13. Do not blame him, for can the blind see the sun or the deaf incline to melodies?
How can I ask to be distracted from love - the sustenance of my soul? May God have mercy on my distraction.

14. A king who gained influence in souls, every possessor of authority wishes for it.
The state of hearts submitted to his vision, and came to his glory in humiliation.

15. He captivated the soul and the restraint with traits created by the hand of the Merciful.
His face is of the narcissus of the full moon, but his cheek is of the anemones.

16. He harvested the fruits of the two gardens from his two cheeks, fresh yet unharvested.
A garden bearing hopes but does not harvest those hopes except by the eyelids.

17. This is the garden of beauties - if I met it, my hands would offer what they presented.
This is the Kaaba of subtleties, but my circumambulation of it is out of faith.

18. People claimed that in its corner there is an imaginer, but it is an unfounded claim.
Rather, from its delicacy, the eyewitness saw a human, from the eyes of the seers during witnessing.

19. Safety, safety from the sorrows of moments that lead coyness without restraint.
You claim to be drunk, but do you think the arrow is in the hand of the drunkard?

20. I wish it would mend the heart by breaking it, and revive me by lifting me up sometimes.
The cure of the heart is a sip of his lips. The essence of my soul, O his coral mouth!

21. So observe the smile of beauties, and beware the army of harm in the mouths of the beautiful.
Do not diminish its way with ease, nor deviate with the breeze of basil's breath.

22. None who met him escaped my heart with an arrow, and he has two arrows from his gaze.
I died passionately in love with him, so who will reward my time? The lover of passion gets two rewards.
