1. My friend, hardship will surely pass away
And ease will certainly come tomorrow

See times of deliverance and distress ahead

3. I used to be like time: when it was daybreak
I woke though time itself remained asleep

4. Can the penniless afford luxury and plenty?
The little I have is sufficient for me

5. Take from me what I can spare, for our times
Are times of generosity yet men are mean

6. I never accepted the barest livelihood
Nor did any friend complain I was stingy

7. My friend, wealth is useless
If it does not benefit a brother or friend

8. When one place became too narrow for me
I sought out another, nothing holds me back

9. No worker succeeds between God and man
Unless he frequents virtue and noble deeds

10. God's bounty never narrows for the moderate
Yet men's morals continue to narrow
