1. When a newborn is born blind, you find him
Your zeal guides better than the keen-sighted and more resolute
١. إِذا وُلِدَ المَولودُ أَعمى وَجَدتَهُ
وَجَدِّكَ أَهدَى مِن بَصيرٍ وَأَجوَلا
2. I was born blind, yet brilliance comes from blindness
I came wondrous in thought, a fortress for knowledge
٢. عَميتُ جَنيناً وَالذَكاءُ مِنَ العَمى
فَجِئتُ عَجيبَ الظَنِّ لِلعِلمِ مَعقِلا
3. The light of the eye faded for the heart to trespass
With a heart that, when people squander, accumulates
٣. وَغاضَ ضِياءُ العَينِ لِلقَلبِ فَاِغتَدى
بِقَلبٍ إِذا ما ضَيَّعَ الناسُ حَصَّلا
4. And poetry like the meadow’s light whose parts
I joined with words when poetry saddens, it flows smoother
٤. وِشِعرٍ كَنورِ الرَوضِ لاءَمتُ بَينَهُ
بِقَولٍ إِذا ما أَحزَنَ الشِعرُ أَسهَلا
