لو كانت الأشعار تنطق

1. If poems could speak, they would pledge
allegiance to Hasan ibn Mur'i as their lord and emir.

١. لو كانتِ الأشعارُ تنطقُ بايعتْ
حَسَنَ بنَ مرعي ربَّها وأميرَها

2. But I find the emirate to be a residence
whose weakness makes it discard its throne.

٢. لكنَّني أجدُ الإمارةَ مَنزِلًا
أوهَى وأوهنَ فاطَّرَحتُ سريرَها

3. I do not claim titles, for behind them
is an evil that secretly kindles its flames.

٣. لا أدَّعي الألقابَ إنَّ وراءها
شرًّا يؤجِّجُ في الخفاءِ سعيرَها
