١. أو ما رأيتَ إلى شئونه
كالدم تهطل من عيونه
2. Fear has not touched him
Yet his soul is weary of its sorrows
٢. لم يعرهُ جبنٌ ول
كن روحه ضاقت بهونه
3. And the free cannot bear seeing
The shackles revolt against his wrists
٣. والحر ان يبصر رني
ن القيد ثار على رنينه
4. Have you not seen the lion with
A small cub yearning for its den
٤. أو ما رأيت الليث مع
تقلا يحن إلى عرينه
5. The shackles exhaust his body
And time mocks his troubles
٥. القيد يرهق جسمه
والدهر يسخر من شؤونه
6. Oh what time does to the generous
And its cruelty and tenderness
٦. يا للزمان على الكري
م ويا لقسوته ولينه
7. Look at him, the light shining
From his forehead has appeared
٧. انظر اليه وقد تبد
ى النور يسطع من جبينه
8. And listen closely to his sighs
Full of heat, and to his moaning
٨. وأصخ الى زفراته
حرى واصغ إلى انينه
9. See his blood flowing
From the wounds and his eyelids
٩. وانظر إلى دمه يسيل
من الجراح ومن جفونه
10. With the twilight's glow in its color
And in it magic of its charm
١٠. في لونه شفق الاصي
ل وفيه سحر من فتونه
11. Perplexed, not knowing whether
The wounds will lead him to his demise
١١. حيران لا يدري أتس
لمه الجراح إلى منونه
12. Or if it will take him, so he lives
In a hell of suspicions
١٢. ام تستبد به فيح
يا في جحيم من ظنونه
13. Asswan, his heart recites poetry
As if he lives without it
١٣. أسوان ينشد قلبه
وكأنه يحيا بدونه
14. He aspires to tomorrow while the night of
Doubt darkens his certainty
١٤. يرنو إلى غده وليل ال
شك يظلم في يقينه
15. Doubt is insane and the heart of the
Free is epileptic in its madness
١٥. والشك مجنون وقلب ال
حر من صرعى جنونه
16. And worry shortens the youth
Finishing him before his time
١٦. والهم يختصر الفتى
يقضي عليه قبل حينه
17. Oh you who return while you are
Birds fluttering on his branches
١٧. يا عائديه وانتمُ
طير ترف على غصونه
18. Bring the garlands of flowers
And scatter them on his right side
١٨. هاتوا اكاليل الازا
هر وانثروها عن يمينه
19. Of the soul's narcissus, the heart's
Rose and jasmine
١٩. من نرجس الروح ومن
ورد الفؤاد وياسمينه
20. And grant him from the most precious
Of existence what he wishes and from its gems
٢٠. وهبوه من غالي الوجو
د ما يشاء ومن ثمينه
21. Has he not given his noble blood
In sacrifice for his nation and religion?
٢١. أو لم يهب دمه العزي
ز فداء موطنه ودينه
22. Oh you noble lion tomorrow
You will yearn for your den
٢٢. يا أيها الأسد الجري
ح غداً يحن إلى عرينه
23. You have in immortality a white page
Shining on your forehead
٢٣. لك في الخلود صحيفة
بيضاء تشرق في جبينه
24. My soul is sacrificed for you and for the right of your
Soul in its wounds and its yearning
٢٤. روحي فداك وحق رو
حك في شجاه وفي حنينه
