1. To where in this transient world
Do we go and become, and what is it?

2. We are its enslaved creatures
Prisoners of its abyss, we humans

3. Why were we created and what do you think
We would be, and will we come again?

4. And if we return, will it be as a
Bird singing or a withering flower?

5. Or as a snake slithering
Or a piercing thorn?

6. After we perish, will we exist again
As we were in our previous state?

7. Will we be immortal or vanish, not seeing
Immortality in our transient world?

8. For is not immortality but a change
Of our weary bodies?

9. So at times we are wine vessels
And at others we are wine in vessels

10. And we become graves with
Pillars of head and forehead

11. In every place a pit
And in every pit a place

12. We love and hate in an instant
And suffer and are happy in another

13. We doubt when certain
And are assured in murky suspicion

14. We hope though despair has taken hold
And despair when wishes are agreeable

15. The sorrows of life make us laugh
And we cry over the destructive laughter

16. Our sights do not see in the light
Yet see in the darkest gloom

17. We blame life while indulging in it
More than an adulterer blames the adulteress

18. And we seek death, but if it draws near
We meet it with tearful eyes

19. We strive for glory until when
We attain it, we yearn for lowliness

20. And we move ahead while it drags us hastily
Degrading us until we fall into the abyss

21. And ambition fades and wishes melt away
And we are buried in a distant grave

22. People complaining of love of life
And a world that is tyrannical over its people

23. The souls' wishes are frivolous
And a cup with no wine or song

24. And some souls possess wisdom
And eminent philosophy

25. That deceives us with mirages of hopes
And brings us a disgraced life

26. And we live complaining of life's goods
As forbidden desires rage

27. Phantoms of desires over the ground
And an empty, desolate grave

28. Stars that fill the vastness of space
We see them but know not what they are

29. They confound us, filling the sky
Shining and darkening in places

30. So dawn appears and night follows
With the raging storm between them

31. And yesterday is like tomorrow
And tonight like the past night

32. Yesterday is like tomorrow, between them
Is an overwhelming confusion

33. And we come and go on
Fleeting memories

34. And weep over memories past
And dread those yet to come

35. The events of time confuse us
And the hands of fate toy with us

36. Why am I confused and perplexed
And what has happened to me and what is in me?

37. I think on the obscure mysteries of existence
And life's riddle in this transient world

38. The secret of immortality beyond death
And the affairs of those hidden powers

39. I ask myself in solitude, who am I?
And what is incumbent on me and why?

40. So I am baffled by solving these puzzles
And stunned by harsh disappointment

41. For my thoughts are a darkened torch
And my mind a fading flame

42. And I gain knowledge of my ignorance
I see myself only as a drifting speck

43. Fate moves it as it wills
So it proceeds content and compelled

44. Like a wave avoiding a boulder
Only to be shattered by another

45. Spells that bewilder the mind
Spells designed in secrecy
