1. O you whose increased remoteness leads me further astray
Validate my soul with your promise, for it suffices her

2. You have killed her with the permanence of your estrangement
And if you had reconciled with her, the spirit of union would have revived her

3. Thanks be to Allah—gratitude with no partner to Him
Patience, for my soul has been deprived of her wishes

4. O people! I have been charged with one
Whom I cannot describe or compare

5. Do not be surprised at the greenness in his qualities
For the stream of the water of beauty irrigates it
