1. They made the pilgrimage an excuse for parting,
And deemed the betrayal of covenants licit.
١. جَعَلوا الحَجَّ حُجَّةً لِلْفِراقِ
وَاسْتَحَلّوا خِيانَةَ المِيثاقِ
2. Had they but dwelt with that beauty, assuredly
We would have borne them up to the highest heavens.
٢. دُونَ تِلْكَ الجِمالِ لَوْ قَدْ أَقامُوا
لَحَمَلْناهُمُ عَلى الأَحْداقِ
