1. The foolish she-camel has come, lightning flashes by her side,
Its rain pours down in streams.
١. قَدْ جَاءَتِ البَغْلَةُ السَّفْوَاءُ يَجْنُبُها
لِلْبَرْقِ غَيْثٌ بَدَا يَنْهَلُّ مَاطِرُهُ
2. A noble she-camel, related to her uncles,
Freed with the most generous ransom of the two creations.
٢. عَرِيقَةٌ نَاسَبَتْ أَخْوالَها فَلَها
بِالْعِتْقِ مِنْ أَكْرَمِ الجِنْسَيْنِ فَاخِرُهُ
3. With a full saddle girth and bright eyes brimming over,
Her beauty makes the absent present.
٣. مِلءُ الحِزَامِ وَمِلءُ العَيْنِ مُسْفِرَةٌ
يُرِيكَ غَائِبَها فِي الحُسْنِ حَاضِرُهُ
4. The meadow offered her its greenest plants in homage,
Afraid they would fade if her radiance left.
٤. أَهْدى لَها الرَّوْضُ مِنْ أَوْصَافِهِ شِيَةً
خَضْراءَ نَاضِرَةً إِنْ زَالَ ناضِرُهُ
5. She is not the first camel I have bought,
Nor, O Generous One, will she be the last.
٥. لَيْسَتْ بِأَوَّلِ حُمْلانٍ شَرَيْت بِهِ
حَمْدِي وَلا هِيَ يَا ذَا الجُودِ آخِرُهُ
6. How many racers have I held by the bridle,
Their hooves drumming the ground!
٦. كَمْ قَدْ تَقَدَّمَها مِنْ سَابِحٍ بِيَدِي
عِنَانُهُ وَعَلى الجَوْزَا حَوَافِرُهُ
