2. I stood in it calling out, questioning it,
It gave no answer while the land was void of people,

3. Save the wild animals spending the night therein,
And ostriches like water-troughs amid the desolate sands,

ูˆูŽุงู„ู†ูุคูŠูŽ ูƒูŽุงู„ุญูŽูˆุถู ุจูุงู„ู…ูŽุธู„ูˆู…ูŽุฉู ุงู„ุฌูŽู„ูŽุฏู

4. It reflected their distant voices and returned the echoes,
The beating of drums at Al-Thaโ€™d like lightning in clouds,

ูค. ุฑูŽุฏูŽู‘ุช ุนูŽู„ูŽูŠู‡ู ุฃูŽู‚ุงุตูŠู‡ู ูˆูŽู„ูŽุจูŽู‘ุฏูŽู‡ู
ุถูŽุฑุจู ุงู„ูˆูŽู„ูŠุฏูŽุฉู ุจูุงู„ู…ูุณุญุงุฉู ููŠ ุงู„ุซูŽุฃูŽุฏู

5. It freed a prisoner who was confined,
And raised him up to the two roof-tops and the bier,

6. It became empty while its inhabitants moved away,
He who lamented over it lamented over Lubad,

7. So ignore what you see since it cannot be reversed,
And drive the camels gently through the soft sands,

8. Cast by the forelocks into the valley of Dakhish,
With a ringing sound like that of cracking by hailstones,

9. As though my camel-litter when the day declined with us
On a miserable, lonely day amid the hissing wind,

10. And the trees of a desolate, feared wasteland,
Bending, like the straight polished Indian sword,

14. He charged the wild cows, protecting them,
With the onslaughts of a piercing trotter when recovering from lameness,

15. As though issuing from the side of his companion
A stupid camel, whom his owner had left behind at a camping-place,

ุทูŽุนู†ูŽ ุงู„ู…ูุจูŽูŠุทูุฑู ุฅูุฐ ูŠูŽุดููŠ ู…ูู†ูŽ ุงู„ุนูŽุถูŽุฏู

16. So he continued swallowing the rich herbage, hunching up,
In a miserable state, truly without any friend;

ูกูฆ. ูƒูŽุฃูŽู†ูŽู‘ู‡ู ุฎุงุฑูุฌุงู‹ ู…ูู† ุฌูŽู†ุจู ุตูŽูุญูŽุชูู‡ู
ุณูŽูู‘ูˆุฏู ุดูŽุฑุจู ู†ูŽุณูˆู‡ู ุนูู†ุฏูŽ ู…ููุชูŽุฃูŽุฏู

17. When a comrade saw his companion's madness
And no way to his sense or guidance,

18. His soul said to him, "I see no hope here,
And your master is not safe and sound";

ูˆูŽู„ุง ุณูŽุจูŠู„ูŽ ุฅูู„ู‰ ุนูŽู‚ู„ู ูˆูŽู„ุง ู‚ูŽูˆูŽุฏู

19. So it will take me to Nu'manโ€”verily he possesses
Excellence above men both far and near.

ูกูฉ. ู‚ุงู„ูŽุช ู„ูŽู‡ู ุงู„ู†ูŽูุณู ุฅูู†ู‘ูŠ ู„ุง ุฃูŽุฑู‰ ุทูŽู…ูŽุนุงู‹
ูˆูŽุฅูู†ูŽู‘ ู…ูŽูˆู„ุงูƒูŽ ู„ูŽู… ูŠูŽุณู„ูŽู… ูˆูŽู„ูŽู… ูŠูŽุตูุฏู

20. I do not see any man among the people resembling him,
Nor any retinue of the tribesmen except one;

ููŽุถู„ุงู‹ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุงู„ู†ุงุณู ููŠ ุงู„ุฃูŽุฏู†ู‰ ูˆูŽููŠ ุงู„ุจูŽุนูŽุฏู

21. Namely Solomon, when Allah said to him,
"Journey in the wilderness and mark it out with stones",

ูขูก. ูˆูŽู„ุง ุฃูŽุฑู‰ ูุงุนูู„ุงู‹ ููŠ ุงู„ู†ุงุณู ูŠูุดุจูู‡ูู‡ู
ูˆูŽู„ุง ุฃูุญุงุดูŠ ู…ูู†ูŽ ุงู„ุฃูŽู‚ูˆุงู…ู ู…ูู† ุฃูŽุญูŽุฏู

22. And reduce the jinn to obedience; verily I have permitted them
To build Tadmur with clay and stone,

ูขูข. ุฅูู„ู‘ุง ุณูู„ูŽูŠู…ุงู†ู ุฅูุฐ ู‚ุงู„ูŽ ุงู„ุฅูู„ูŽู‡ู ู„ูŽู‡ู
ู‚ูู… ููŠ ุงู„ุจูŽุฑููŠูŽู‘ุฉู ููŽุงูุญุฏูุฏู‡ุง ุนูŽู†ู ุงู„ููŽู†ูŽุฏู

23. So whoever obeys you, benefit him through his obedience,
Even as he obeyed you, and guide him to righteousness;

ูขูฃ. ูˆุฎูŠู‘ุณู ุงู„ุฌูู†ูŽู‘ ุฅูู†ู‘ูŠ ู‚ูŽุฏ ุฃูŽุฐูู†ุชู ู„ูŽู‡ูู…
ูŠูŽุจู†ูˆู†ูŽ ุชูŽุฏู…ูุฑูŽ ุจูุงู„ุตููู‘ุงุญู ูˆูŽุงู„ุนูŽู…ูŽุฏู

24. And whoever disobeys you, punish him with chastisement
That will deter the wrongdoers and is not simply a bandage;

ูขูค. ููŽู…ูŽู† ุฃูŽุทุงุนูŽูƒูŽ ููŽุงูู†ููŽุนู‡ู ุจูุทุงุนูŽุชูู‡ู
ูƒูŽู…ุง ุฃูŽุทุงุนูŽูƒูŽ ูˆูŽุงูุฏู„ูู„ู‡ู ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุงู„ุฑูŽุดูŽุฏู

25. None is suited for this affair but you or one whom you preceded
And outstripped the steed when it strains to the utmost;

ูขูฅ. ูˆูŽู…ูŽู† ุนูŽุตุงูƒูŽ ููŽุนุงู‚ูุจู‡ู ู…ูุนุงู‚ูŽุจูŽุฉู‹
ุชูŽู†ู‡ู‰ ุงู„ุธูŽู„ูˆู…ูŽ ูˆูŽู„ุง ุชูŽู‚ุนูุฏ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุถูŽู…ูŽุฏู

26. He gave to Farwah a hundred reddish-white camels, whose succession
Of gifts is not given for misery;

ูขูฆ. ุฅูู„ู‘ุง ู„ูู…ูุซู„ููƒูŽ ุฃูŽูˆ ู…ูŽู† ุฃูŽู†ุชูŽ ุณุงุจูู‚ูู‡ู
ุณูŽุจู‚ูŽ ุงู„ุฌูŽูˆุงุฏูŽ ุฅูุฐุง ุงูุณุชูŽูˆู„ู‰ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุงู„ุฃูŽู…ูŽุฏู

27. The Giver decked them out with trappings,
Bright like the full moons in their upper parts;

ูขูง. ุฃูŽุนุทู‰ ู„ููุงุฑูู‡ูŽุฉู ุญูู„ูˆู ุชูŽูˆุงุจูุนูู‡ุง
ู…ูู†ูŽ ุงู„ู…ูŽูˆุงู‡ูุจู ู„ุง ุชูุนุทู‰ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ู†ูŽูƒูŽุฏู

28. And also chestnut horses, whose girths
Were bound with the ropes of Hira, new and strong,

ูขูจ. ุงู„ูˆุงู‡ูุจู ุงู„ู…ูุฆูŽุฉูŽ ุงู„ู…ูŽุนูƒุงุกูŽ ุฒูŽูŠูŽู‘ู†ูŽู‡ุง
ุณูŽุนุฏุงู†ู ุชูˆุถูุญูŽ ููŠ ุฃูŽูˆุจุงุฑูู‡ุง ุงู„ู„ูุจูŽุฏู

29. And runners, the ends of whose leading-ropes trailed along,
Cooled by the blowing of the northerly winds, fresh and sweet,

ูขูฉ. ูˆูŽุงู„ุฃูุฏู…ูŽ ู‚ูŽุฏ ุฎููŠูู‘ุณูŽุช ููุชู„ุงู‹ ู…ูŽุฑุงููู‚ูู‡ุง
ู…ูŽุดุฏูˆุฏูŽุฉู‹ ุจูุฑูุญุงู„ู ุงู„ุญูŠุฑูŽุฉู ุงู„ุฌูุฏูุฏู

30. While the horses were kicking up the dust-clouds in their excitement,
Like birds escaping from a storm and intense cold;

ูฃู . ูˆูŽุงู„ุฑุงูƒูุถุงุชู ุฐููŠูˆู„ูŽ ุงู„ุฑูŽูŠุทู ูุงู†ูŽู‚ูŽู‡ุง
ุจูŽุฑุฏู ุงู„ู‡ูŽูˆุงุฌูุฑู ูƒูŽุงู„ุบูุฒู„ุงู†ู ุจูุงู„ุฌูŽุฑูŽุฏู

31. Judge with the judgment of the girl of Huyay
When she looked at a flock of pigeons coming to water,

ูฃูก. ูˆูŽุงู„ุฎูŽูŠู„ูŽ ุชูŽู…ุฒูŽุนู ุบูŽุฑุจุงู‹ ููŠ ุฃูŽุนูู†ูŽู‘ุชูู‡ุง
ูƒูŽุงู„ุทูŽูŠุฑู ุชูŽู†ุฌูˆ ู…ูู†ูŽ ุงู„ุดูุคุจูˆุจู ุฐูŠ ุงู„ุจูŽุฑูŽุฏู

32. Accompanied by a hawk, and then followed
By one like an unEyelinered bottle free from dust,

ูฃูข. ุงูุญูƒูู… ูƒูŽุญููƒู…ู ููŽุชุงุฉู ุงู„ุญูŽูŠูู‘ ุฅูุฐ ู†ูŽุธูŽุฑูŽุช
ุฅูู„ู‰ ุญูŽู…ุงู…ู ุดูุฑุงุนู ูˆุงุฑูุฏู ุงู„ุซูŽู…ูŽุฏู

33. She said: "Would that this pigeon flock were ours
Together with our own dovecoteโ€”and half as many more!"

ูฃูฃ. ูŠูŽุญูููู‘ู‡ู ุฌุงู†ูุจุง ู†ูŠู‚ู ูˆูŽุชูุชุจูุนูู‡ู
ู…ูุซู„ูŽ ุงู„ุฒูุฌุงุฌูŽุฉู ู„ูŽู… ุชููƒุญูŽู„ ู…ูู†ูŽ ุงู„ุฑูŽู…ูŽุฏู

34. They counted them, and found them ninety-nine, lacking nothing and with nothing over,
So she completed a hundred including her own doves,

35. And quickly finished the reckoning of that number.
Noโ€”by Him whose Kaaba I have touched,

ูฃูฅ. ููŽุญูŽุณูŽู‘ุจูˆู‡ู ููŽุฃูŽู„ููŽูˆู‡ู ูƒูŽู…ุง ุญูŽุณูŽุจูŽุช
ุชูุณุนุงู‹ ูˆูŽุชูุณุนูŠู†ูŽ ู„ูŽู… ุชูŽู†ู‚ูุต ูˆูŽู„ูŽู… ุชูŽุฒูุฏู

36. And whose body the buildings at Najd have not harbored,
And by the believers who take refuge with the birds,

ูฃูฆ. ููŽูƒูŽู…ูŽู‘ู„ูŽุช ู…ูุฆูŽุฉู‹ ููŠู‡ุง ุญูŽู…ุงู…ูŽุชูู‡ุง
ูˆูŽุฃูŽุณุฑูŽุนูŽุช ุญูุณุจูŽุฉู‹ ููŠ ุฐูŽู„ููƒูŽ ุงู„ุนูŽุฏูŽุฏู

37. Whom the riders of the valley and of Sa'd touch!
I have said naught of evil in what you have done

ูˆูŽู…ุง ู‡ูุฑูŠู‚ูŽ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุงู„ุฃูŽู†ุตุงุจู ู…ูู† ุฌูŽุณูŽุฏู

38. If I raise not my whip-hand against myself;
But the saying of certain people has distressed me,

ูฃูจ. ูˆูŽุงู„ู…ูุคู…ูู†ู ุงู„ุนุงุฆูุฐุงุชู ุงู„ุทูŽูŠุฑู ุชูŽู…ุณูŽุญูู‡ุง
ุฑููƒุจุงู†ู ู…ูŽูƒูŽู‘ุฉูŽ ุจูŽูŠู†ูŽ ุงู„ุบูŽูŠู„ู ูˆูŽุงู„ุณูŽุนูŽุฏู

39. Their saying being a blow with a cranium on my liver.
Then may my Lord chastise me with a chastisement

ูฃูฉ. ู…ุง ู‚ูู„ุชู ู…ูู† ุณูŽูŠูู‘ุฆู ู…ูู…ู‘ุง ุฃูŽุชูŽูŠุชูŽ ุจูู‡ู
ุฅูุฐุงู‹ ููŽู„ุง ุฑูŽููŽุนูŽุช ุณูŽูˆุทูŠ ุฅูู„ูŽูŠูŽู‘ ูŠูŽุฏูŠ

40. That will rejoice the eye of him who brings you calumny!
I am told that Abu Qabus has threatened meโ€”

ูคู . ุฅูู„ู‘ุง ู…ูŽู‚ุงู„ูŽุฉูŽ ุฃูŽู‚ูˆุงู…ู ุดูŽู‚ูŠุชู ุจูู‡ุง
ูƒุงู†ูŽุช ู…ูŽู‚ุงู„ูŽุชูู‡ูู… ู‚ูŽุฑุนุงู‹ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุงู„ูƒูŽุจูุฏู

41. But there is no repose for him who is enraged like a lion.
Gently! The ransom of all the tribes is yours,

ู‚ูŽุฑูŽู‘ุช ุจูู‡ุง ุนูŽูŠู†ู ู…ูŽู† ูŠูŽุฃุชูŠูƒูŽ ุจูุงู„ููŽู†ูŽุฏู

42. And I have no wealth or children to lose;
Do not cast me into a predicament from which I have no escape,

ูˆูŽู„ุง ู‚ูŽุฑุงุฑูŽ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุฒูŽุฃุฑู ู…ูู†ูŽ ุงู„ุฃูŽุณูŽุฏู

43. Even if your enemies have inveigled you with presents.
For when the winds blow fiercely the Euphratesโ€”

ูคูฃ. ู…ูŽู‡ู„ุงู‹ ููุฏุงุกูŒ ู„ูŽูƒูŽ ุงู„ุฃูŽู‚ูˆุงู…ู ูƒูู„ูู‘ู‡ูู…ู
ูˆูŽู…ุง ุฃูุซูŽู…ูŽู‘ุฑู ู…ูู† ู…ุงู„ู ูˆูŽู…ูู† ูˆูŽู„ูŽุฏู

44. Its eddies cast up the white spume in bunchesโ€”
Every valley contributing a flooding rain,

ูคูค. ู„ุง ุชูŽู‚ุฐูููŽู†ู‘ูŠ ุจูุฑููƒู†ู ู„ุง ูƒููุงุกูŽ ู„ูŽู‡ู
ูˆูŽุฅูู† ุชูŽุฃูŽุซูŽู‘ููŽูƒูŽ ุงู„ุฃูŽุนุฏุงุกู ุจูุงู„ุฑูููŽุฏู

45. Therein debris of the tamarisk and papyrusโ€”
The sailor remains in fear of it, seeking refuge

46. In a bittern-bed beyond the sand and gravel,
One day with richer gifts than it, it gives superfluous gifts,
