1. The sweets did not benefit them,
Nor were they sated by the sea,

2. Nor does treasure avail them,
Nor did they yearn for pearls,

3. So why does the soul torment itself
From dawn until dawn?

4. For in ignorance there are pleasures
That my life has been emptied of,

5. And I am inclined to the ignorance
Of my own madness without my control,

6. To reform an unjust time
That casts me away.
