1. Sultan Bey Abu al-Fakhar the Greatest
The master son of al-Manjid son of the most glorious

2. And son of the virtuous whose faces
We water when time is stingy with its season

3. Others reap while I am punished among you
So it's as if I'm the finger of regret

4. You accused me of what I didn't say and judged me
As if I was ashamed of the most generous man

5. You spoke the truth about me to the liars and you weren't
Lying when you wrote to me and spoke

6. If I'm a liar and lies are believed
Then rebut my questions and teach me

7. So everything I've given you before
And my knowledge is the knowledge of the ignorant

8. My grammar will be erased tomorrow and my syntax
Is all syntax, and my eloquent speech exposes defects

9. I don't know anything but opposites and their reversal
And of the negatives, only the denial of the glory of the highest

10. And of meanings, I don't know anything but what
I didn't try to detract from my Sheikh, so understand

11. Excuse, brother, my inadequacy which made
The angels cry in grief at Hateem and Zamzam

12. I wasn't like this before when
If anyone insulted you I thought it outrageous

13. But I knew I relied on you
And I repelled the tricks of fate, unblemished

14. And I saw pottery in serving you
And I said to the lofty nobility, come forward

15. And now since I've seen what I've seen
From you I regret the loyal past

16. And I chose immediate death so I won't be seen
Lying down like the steadfast raven

17. Where can I escape when my fate has chained me
To misery and affliction with a dark chain

18. And I'm tired of life not because
Of old age, but from frequent bitterness

19. I have no money to spite the envious nor
Do I have status to compel all generosity

20. Fate made me destitute and increased my agony
And death is best for the poor destitute
