1. I submit to the one who turns love from submitting
The mother of people, no one among them is safe from passion

2. Passion called me forward, so I rushed to it eagerly
My delegations came to it, black in color and resolute

3. So I came as an old man whose lightning has met
And I returned while my head is like accumulated clouds

4. The lightning of the clouds of union has become unstable
And that which accumulates has become resolute

5. I could not get any rest from my nights, but I wish it
Would happen even if the procrastinators are called unjust

6. I took off my excuse when I was tied down by love
And released my justification to the one who blames me

7. I am not doubtful about my burning and infatuation
Does complaining benefit when my passion is ever-present?

8. Does complaining benefit when my heart is obligated
To love and my determination is for youth and zeal?

9. My body is frail and no pillars sustain it
Do inner zeal’s pillars benefit the frail?

10. My love is beyond those who love describing their love
Even if a rumormonger elaborates and a composer composes

11. My God, distract my thoughts from the raging
My God, protect my heart from my love's grasp

12. My God, preoccupy my thoughts with the beloved as booty
And make my eyes flow with tears constantly

13. So who can help me when the beloved has cut me off
And fate has resolved to betray and be unjust?

14. My people have marched against fate so its vanguards
Appear to be arrayed against me and oppose me

15. The hypocrites have exposed their confusion about me
And everyone has declared what he hides

16. And even if I become alone and isolated I am a hero
Courageous against those schemes resolutely

17. I prepare myself for the intertwined spears
And I scatter the hordes when the battles intensify

18. I will abandon my abode for disgrace even if
The good omens were tied to it previously

19. I have no sin except that I am educated
And no fault except that I am a scholar

20. An eloquent orator who scatters the pearls of his composition
So wondrous that the scatterer is also the composer!

21. The missions of eloquence were sealed through me
As they were sealed through the grandson of the Prophet, the most generous

22. My father Sa'd and the pride and zeal whose
Signs of abundant virtue are upon the stars

23. He is the brilliant celestial body, the light of the bottle
The Prophet through whom the Hashimites were led

24. He has an esteemed lineage ascending to the stars
And no highborn can equal him

25. How could this not be when the fragrance of Mecca wafts
From his sleeves? In his prayer niche, religion stands

26. Indeed, the pearls of his words deafened hearing
And the mouths of the perfumers smelled the musk through him

27. From those through whom the House of Revelation maintained its prosperity
Through them its pillars were reconstructed

28. They are the family through whom we pride ourselves as Arabs
Begotten from generous and noble forefathers

29.
A generous one beneficial to those whose state is straitened

30. A brave one who protects those ruined by fate
Shrewd in resolving every difficulty

31. When it occurs, swords are unsheathed against it
He plans for coming calamities as if

32. He knows all that fate will bring
His view is firmer than swords sharpened

33. With which he straightens the deviants which are resolute
If asked about knowledge, he is Nu'man in his research

34. If asked about generosity, no doubt he is Hatim
Noble in character, from the progeny of Haydar

35. Abundant in gifts, his generosity ensues
Free of all blame, so traits of beauty in him

36. Are balanced, from which the noble traits ensue
He is the accomplished scholar, the science to which

37. Seekers extend in hopes, desiring
His compositions are the light illuminating the world

38. His treatises are guides for all nations
O son of generous forefathers, leading to the highest

39. O master of survivors, though all shall perish
You are excused for my inadequate praise

40. For I have fallen short, though I am the composer
The qualities of praise for you are precious

41. No composer has counted a tenth of a tenth of them
My intention is to reciprocate some of your goodness to us

42. For you are our fortress and protection
You are for us, if fate is harsh, a neighbor

43. Diverting its destructive calamities from us
After our father, you were the best caretaker

44. Of our burdens, while the people opposed
Especially now, we are loyal to you

45. As Salman was loyal to your father
O family of al-Suwaydi, be a shield for us

46. Through you we ward off dangers whenever they clash
You remain for people a refuge from deviation
