1. Others' hearts yearn for her eyes, and for her
They have surpassed the ideals of meaning and yearned for her

١. غيري إلى العين يصبو قلبه ولَها
وعن مثال المعاني قد نبا وَلَها

2. I have an ambition - if I rouse its bird to flight
To attain an honor among the stars that flew for her

٢. لي همةٌ إن أثار العزم طائرها
لنيل مكرمةٍ في النجم طار لَها

3. And I have soul mates who make the rocks pliant
Like Salman's sword in battle, drawn for her

٣. ولي جنان يقدّ الصخر مرهفه
كسيف سلمان في الهيجاء سُلّ لها

4. Ask the noblest of nobles, who surpassed their enemies
In wisdom, resolve, generosity - perfect and exemplary

٤. سَل الكرام الألى فاقوا مناوئهم
حزماً وعزماً وجوداً كاملاً ونُهى

5. He attained all honors since before maturity, and after
Adolescence, with complete virtues that adorned him

٥. حاز المكارم من قبل الفطام ومن
بعد الترعرع بالأفضال كلّمها

6. A brother of intelligence, the elder would envy him
For when faced with knotty problems, he unties them

٦. أخو ذكاء يكاد الشيخ يغبطه
فيه إذا مشكلات حلّ مُقفَلها

7. And a perceptiveness that penetrated every assembly
Like the eloquent pens of learned scribes expounding them

٧. وفطنةٍ نفذت في كل مجملةٍ
لحَبر فاراب قد يعزى مفصَّلها

8. He continues to excel in most honors
Until he gains the best, and chooses the most perfect

٨. ما زال يمتار جلّ المكرمات إلى
أن حاز أفضلها فاختار أكملها

9. Two excellences go hand in hand in him:
Courage and knowledge that solve their riddles

٩. رئاستان به قِدماً تقارنتا
شجاعةٌ وعلومٌ فكَّ معضَلَها

10. Like the moon is his ascent on days of generosity, thus
Making halos revolve around him, increasing joy through him

١٠. كالبدر طلعته يوم العطاء لذا
دارت بها هالة زاد السرور بها

11. If his smile illuminates a question
The likeners are confused in their comparisons, bewildered by him

١١. فإن أنار محيّاه لمسألة
حار المشبّه في تشبيهه وسها

12. The truest words about him, as we date him
Are: the dawn adorned itself with the diadem and shone through him

١٢. فأصدقُ القول فيه إذ نؤرخه
فجر تقنّع بالديجور جاد بها
