1. Such is the reward of an ardent lover stirred,
Or is this the wont of the fickle and absurd?

2. My joy was sapped by the exile's bitter plight,
My joy was dashed when bonds of love were blurred.

3. If time has altered my unchanging state,
To other than I, it has not occurred.

4. Long has it turned my hopes toward an end
To me most precious, held tight in my gird.

5. Men were obedient as shoe-strap to me,
When I was their master, untamed and unstirred

6. Life was verdant, its draughts I sipped,
Pure, unsullied, from a limpid ford.

7. Bliss served my glory, endeavor my pride,
Splendor sought my bounty, the brave recurr'd;

8. But now my epoch treats me with contempt,
Obeying the bids of envious curs.

9. So down upon me crashed its niggardliness,
Razing a structure with beauty insured.

10. It pelted me with every carping taunt,
Of each miscreant and changing reprobate.

11. Thus was made licit what to foes was forbid,
The abject instead of the noble interred.

12. Till enfeebled was I, no courage had I,
To parry its onslaught or call for aid.

13. Supporters few, and no friend sincere
Except the minister, my refuge assured,

14. Shelter of the frail against devastation,
Bane of transgressors, their ruin ensured.

15. Valiant, unwavering, when crisis descends,
A clashing like lions on coursers spurred.

16. When the gloomy darkness of battle descends,
He's a lion assailing with courage assured.

17. Ever ready is he when the throngs mass,
His lance a lightning bolt, grasped in his hand

18. Some he routs, others laud him with rhythm and song,
Intoning forever the notes they've immured.

19. Battalions retreat at his resolute will,
Steadfast determination and spirit matured.

20. Like a mountain he stands, firm, resolute, steeled,
When squadrons clash, no fear makes him waver.

21. With how many cloaked was I in their blood?
Others stretched on the ground, their wits blurred.

22. Ask of him on the night Persian fires were quelled,
After raging unchecked and fully immured.

23. Ask the nomads, their warriors will tell
Of his onslaughts, continuous and unfetured.

24. The Persians and nomads know full well
His mettle, when tested and might secured.

25. His wisdom suffices when perils mount,
And affairs grow fraught with glum portent.

26. Eyes of faith are delighted in him
By the best of care, assuaged and assured.

27. A sultan crowned with glory and splendor,
Exalted over modest and proud pretender.

28. He surpassed all kings in justice and courage,
And over all valiant, the foremost and first.

29. With grand aspirations no peaks overtower,
Windswept summits, or peaks snow-inured.

30. Presiding on the seat of rule was he reared,
Never negligent, focused, controlled, assured.

31. He's the minister, none other compares,
Peerless, son of the peerless, his roots immured.
