1. May God preserve you, O ruins
Hearts have come to visit you and are inspired

2. You are remnants of a kingdom now gone
And kings have moved on to the grave

3. Perhaps their adversity will be softened
Knowing that time will follow in their wake

4. For every living mortal there is a place
Brief in duration and bound to depart

5. Unlike those with insight who see
Whose worth equals thousands of men

6. O palace you have withstood time
Even though disasters have befallen you

7. You stand tall, bestowed by your Lord
Above the most precious ruins ever beheld

8. The ear may err but you will not
Fail the heart engaged in God

9. I know well what you have conveyed
And my heart is the scroll of your revelation

10. Once you hosted kings lavishly
With thousands feasting in celebration

11. Guiding to propriety and righteousness
With generosity, honor and dignity your hallmarks

12. In people's eyes you have sanctity
Made safe from violation by your nobility

13. Pause here a little, for none like you
Will tolerate the insolence of their ilk

14. Deaf like those who peddle idle talk
And are silenced by their shame

15. Humble when seen, thought to be
In awe of God, trembling in fear

16. God has protected you from the river's harm
So storms could not breach your walls

17. Birds seeing you are humbled
By the praising of your occupants, and pray

18. The kingdom's glory may have faded
Yet you maintain majestic vestiges

19. Still standing tall above the ravages
That wear down even mountains

20. Once a lion's den, now
Goats and sheep graze in you

21. The loss of bounty has left us
Bearing all kinds of misery

22. We are in a world like a theater
I see its curtain is soon to fall
