1. I have been patient, yet patience brings no relief,
How long, my Lord, must the heavens' patience be?

2. I've endured harm far too long.
People's disdain of me has gone on far too long.

3. My only fault is that I am a youth,
Few in words, abundant in modesty,

4. Innocent of villainy, though I am accused,
My heart turns away and is gentle like the breeze.

5. I am frank and honest, loathing hypocrisy,
Quick to forgive those who have done wrong.

6. No false facade has fooled me,
Nor is it in my nature to be aggressive.

7. Yet it pleases me when loyalty rises
Among the people, replacing enmity.

8. But I see people care not
For perfection, goodness or clarity.

9. Make me a prophet sent to them -
Will the deaf hear my call?

10. Can goodness be found in a world
Whose forefathers set out to do evil?

11. I will step down from a post
That brings me into contact with the witless throngs,

12. Costing me my health,
Character, freedom and joy.

13. If these are lost, they cannot be
Put up for sale or purchase.
