1. The wailers do not count in a lifetime
What was in it, nor the Master if he boasts
١. إِنَّ النَوائِحَ لا يَعدونَ في عُمَرٍ
ما كانَ فيهِ وَلا المَولى إِذا اِفتَخَرا
2. When he counts deeds or if he has lineage
Or a day of battle when his might dazzles eyesight
٢. إِذا عَدَدنَ فَعالاً أَو لَهُ حَسَباً
أَو يَومَ هَيجاءَ يُعشي بَأسُهُ البَصَرا
3. The Sayer, the Doer, the Guardian of his truth
The Giver, the refuge, the misleading mirages
٣. القائِلَ الفاعِلَ الحامي حَقيقَتَهُ
وَالواهِبَ المِئَةَ المِعكاءَ وَالغُرَرا
4. One of lineage must not cast his hands to fate
Seeking ransom when his spear is broken
٤. لا يُلقِيَن بِيَدَيهِ الدَهرَ ذي حَسَبٍ
يَرجو الفِداءَ إِذا ما رُمحُهُ اِنكَسَرا
