1. Be gentle about the matter of which you were ignorant

١. رُوَيدَ عَنِ الأَمرَ الَّذي كُنتَ جاهِلاً
بِأَسبابِهِ حَتّى تَغِبَّ عَواقِبُه
2. Perhaps the world becomes too narrow for a rider
When he sets out or returns with his mounts
٢. لَعَلَّ حِمى الدَهنا يَضيقُ بِراكِبٍ
إِذا ما غَدا أَو راحَ تَسري رَكايِبُه
3. I see an ascetic who cannot do his asceticism
Wretched, nor the earning which he earns
٣. أَرى زَهدَماً لا يَستَطيعُ فَعالَهُ
لَئيمٌ وَلا الكَسبَ الَّذي هُوَ كاسِبُه
