١. أَجَندَلُ لَولا خِلَّتانِ أَناخَتا
إِلَيكَ لَقَد لامَتكَ أُمُّكَ جَندَلُ
2. A dove with a heart not guided by reason
Her love for Numair will never change
٢. حَمامَةُ قَلبٍ لا يُقيمُكَ عَقلُهُ
وَإِنَّ نُمَيراً وُدُّها لا يُبَدَّلُ
3. If it weren't for Numair, I would not praise her
And Numair's love for her, if she walks, will not waver
٣. وَلَولا نُمَيرٌ إِنَّني لا أَسُبُّها
وَوُدُّ نُمَيرٍ إِن مَشَت لا يُحَوَّلُ
4. I would have burdened you with an endeavor you cannot attain
So you may see that the two sins are most heavy
٤. لَكَلَّفتُكَ الشَأوَ الَّذي لَستَ نايِلاً
وَحَتّى تَرى أَنَّ الذَنوبَينِ أَثقَلُ
5. Is it Khindif or Qais, when they meet them
To the station of the trained camel, saddled and shod?
٥. أَخِندِفُ أَم قَيسٌ إِذا ما اِلتَقى بِهِم
إِلى مَوقِفِ الهَديِ المَطِيُّ المُنَعَّلُ
