1. He used to give people refuge from Malik's sword
Yet now he seeks one to give his soul refuge
١. وَكانَ يُجيرُ الناسَ مِن سَيفِ مالِكٍ
فَأَصبَحَ يَبغي نَفسَهُ مَن يُجيرُها
2. Like a goat standing on its udders
Heading to a city amidst swirling dust
٢. فَكانَ كَعَنزِ السوءِ قامَت بِظِلفِها
إِلى مُديَةٍ وَسطَ التُرابِ تُثيرُها
3. Abd al-Qays will learn when his kingdom falls
How bitter its continuation will be
٣. سَتَعلَمُ عَبدُ القَيسِ إِن زالَ مُلكُها
عَلى أَيُّ حالٍ يَستَمِرُّ مَريرُها
