1. O questioner, where are generosity and nobility?
I have an explanation, if you want it, come forward.

2. This is the one known by al-Bat'ha and its roads,
The house knows him, and the sanctuary, and all places.

3. This is the son of the best of God's servants altogether,
This is the devout, the pure, the immaculate, the learned.

4. This is the one whose father is Ahmad the Chosen One
May my God send blessings upon him as long as the pen writes.

5. If the Corner had known who was coming to kiss it
It would have come kissing wherever his feet stepped.

6. This is the son of the Messenger of God, his father,
By the light of his guidance the nations find their way.

7. This is the one whose uncle is the Pure Ja‘far
And Hamzah the slain lion, he who shared his love.

8. This is the son of the Mistress of the Women, Fatima,
And the son of the Successor, in whose sword lies vengeance.

9. When the Quraysh see him, one of them says:
Nobility ends with this man and generosity.

10. He almost holds back from touching the Corner,
The Corner of the Hajar, when he comes to take it.

11. It is no insult when you say "Who is this?"
The Arabs know who you deny, and the non-Arabs too.

12. He reaches the pinnacle of glory which falls short
For the Arabs of Islam and the non-Arabs to attain.

13. He is shy and in awe, so he barely speaks
Except when he smiles.

14. The light of his cheeks outshines the light of his grin
As the sun outshines the darkness when it rises.

15. In his palm is a fragrant basil, its scent still lingering
On the palm of the most magnificent when it is smelled.

16. He never said no, except when sending blessings on the Prophet
If not for the blessings, his yes would have been yes.

17. His qualities are derived from the Messenger of God
His traits and character are of the finest stock.

18. The bearer of the burdens of a people, when they weary
Sweet of traits, beside him all traits are sweet.

19. If he speaks, he speaks what they all desire
And if he talks one day, his words are adorned.

20. This is the son of Fatimah, if you do not know him,
His grandfather ended the line of prophets.

21. God favored him from the first and ennobled him
So it was decreed for him in the guarded tablet.

22. One whose grandfather all the virtues of prophets ensue
And the virtues of his nation are subservient to him.

23. He spread good throughout creation, and it was cleared
Of blindness, confusion, and darkness.

24. His two hands are salvation, their benefit widespread
Sought for aid, never afflicted by lack.

25. Easygoing, his first steps are not feared,
Adorned by two traits: forbearance and generosity.

26. He does not break his solemn promise
Capacious is he, even when pressured.

27. They are a people whose love is religion, and whose hate
Is blasphemy, and closeness to them brings salvation.

28. Evil and trials are dispelled by loving them
And good and bounty increased by doing so.

29. They are first to be mentioned after God
In every religious duty, and last to be named.

30. If the people of piety are counted, they are their imams
Or it is said: who are the best people of earth? They are.

31. After their superiority no others compete
And no people equal them, even if noble.

32. They are the helpers when a crisis makes one helpless
And the lions, fierce lions, and raging in war.

33. Honor refuses to let insult reach them
Noble tents, and hands that are thick-skinned.

34. Hardship does not decrease their open-handedness
It's the same, rich or poor.

35. What tribes have no allegiance to them
For guardianship of this one or that one, yes.

36. Whoever recognizes God, recognizes the guardianship of this house
So religion has come to the nations through them.

37. Their houses are the beacons for Quraysh
To illuminate the way in adversity and when they judge.

38. His grandfather, among Quraysh the noblest of houses
Is Muhammad, and after him `Ali the flag.

39. For him Badr bears witness, and Mount Uhud
And the two Khandaqs, and the day of victory they know.

40. And Khaybar and Hunayn bear witness for him
And the day of Quraydhah when he took them down.

41. Moments that rose above the companions in every adversity
I have not concealed as they concealed.
