1. By my life! Indeed Ibn Ahawz led a battalion
By which Islam's every path was humiliated
١. لَعَمري لَقَد قادَ اِبنُ أَحوَزَ قَودَةً
بِها ذَلَّ لِلإِسلامِ كُلُّ طَريقِ
2. You bent the stallions of the men of Wasit
And every swift-running of the wager
٢. ثَنَيتَ ذُكورَ الخَيلِ مِن أَهلِ واسِطٍ
وَكُلَّ مُفَدّاةِ الرِهانِ سَبوقِ
3. Swords which, when the caller calls out, are like
The dogs of Sulouq that bark
٣. حَوافِيَ يُحذَينَ الحَديدَ كَأَنَّها
إِذا صَرَّخَ الداعي كِلابُ سَلوقِ
4. We made their heads and bodies between our spearheads
Flaming bodies full of gashes
٤. جَعَلنا بِقِندابيلَ بَينَ رُؤوسِهِم
وَأَجسادِهِم شَهباءَ ذاتَ خُروقِ
5. With every shining crescent moon and magnificent one
Having an aversion from a prominent one and lightning
٥. بِكُلِّ مُضيءٍ كَالهِلالِ وَفَخمَةٍ
لَها غَبيَةٌ مِن عارِضٍ وَبُروقِ
6. And flaming ones led by the champions of strife
We gored so they were left without skulls
٦. وَشَهباءَ قادَتها صَناديدُ فِتنَةٌ
نَطَحنا فَأَمسَت غَيرَ ذاتِ فُتوقِ
