1. If you are dear then a dear one,
To be, O girl, among the fortunate,

2. And your smile is a touch of sorrow in it,
Bringing down despair into hard hearts,

3. With languid, dreamy eyes,
With which you bring the light of life,

4. They brought her down to the abodes of disgrace,
Then said she had become one of the immoral ones,

5. They disliked and deceived her and tempted her
And said she had become one of the doomed,

6. And they saw honor in their women if
They dug it up, they'd count it among the disgraces,

7. Her only excuse is them and their women,
Their excuse is blindness and foul qualities,

8. I do not expect any apology for her when
The truth thunders, chastising the wicked ones,

9. Except that I see a difference here,
In temptations that distinguish the tempted ones,

10. And the corruption of bodies is easier
Than corruption of souls and emotions,

11. And if the path is even,
Excuse on it ceases for stumbling,

12. The worst corruption is what is veiled
By the veil of chastity in homes,

13. We are in an ignoble time,
With misguidance among guiding men,

14. Yet among them is the dear one like the guilty,
And they have no mercy on offenders,

15. And I see her as weak so I
Am soft-hearted and my sighs leave me,

16. Every limb bleeds in me,
Stabbed by the piercing glances,

17. As she gazes like the shining star,
And walks lightly like a gazelle,

18. With a figure slender as the sad branches
In the playground of the breeze,

19. She resembles the full moon in pallor and glow,
And emulates the flowers in smiles,

20. Free in speech and soul when she jests,
Jesting pure, immaculate,

21. She combines good nature and form,
She is perfect, the carpenter's daughter,

22. And it is forbidden that beauty be left to evil
And decreed prey to lusts,

23. Only the drowning are rescued from the sea,
And the rope of salvation is lowered to them,

24. Only the sick return to health
If they are treated with remedies,

25. Only the wretched are deterred from death
Though yearning for demise,

26. This life is but comfort,
So spend it in good and virtues.
