1. O dweller of the world, you have settled it
And secured it wondrously—how did you secure it?

2. You busied your heart with pleasures instead of the Hereafter
You tricked yourself with passions and seduced it

3. If you were prudent, you would have seen the rights
Of youthfulness upon you and been certain of them

4. Have you not seen how desires change
From what you knew, and sometimes even alter them?

5. You honored yourself with disgrace for them, even if
You advised and humiliated them, they would have honored you

6. O dweller of the world, it’s as if you thought
You would live forever—so you gathered and hoarded it

7. O dweller of the world, you kept adorning
The world with what cannot be made right—so you disputed it

8. Remember your loved ones whom you orphaned
Remember the pawned ones in the soil—you pawned them

9. The best of what you put forth is the Sunnah of the Righteous
For the righteous, you did it and systemized it
