1. How many a sage desires through his wisdom
To take advance praise before his blessing
١. كَم مِن حَكيمٍ يَبغي بِحِكمَتِهِ
تَسَلُّفَ الحَمدِ قَبلَ نِعمَتِهِ
2. Yet this is not what the Merciful judged
In His justice and mercy
٢. وَلَيسَ هَذا الَّذي بِهِ حَكَمَ الـ
ـرَحمَنُ في عَدلِهِ وَرَحمَتِهِ
3. We take refuge in Allah, the Majestic, the Generous
From His wrath and vengeance
٣. نَعوذُ بِاللَهِ ذي الجَلالِ وَذي الـ
ـإِكرامِ مِن سُخطِهِ وَنِقمَتِهِ
4. A man is only by his good, manifest guidance
And the goodness of what he provides
٤. ما المَرءُ إِلّا بِهَديِهِ الحَسَنِ الـ
ـظاهِرِ مِنهُ وَطيبِ طُعمَتِهِ
5. A man is only by the excellence of his way
In private and public and the justice of his distribution
٥. ما المَرءُ إِلّا بِحُسنِ مَذهَبِهِ
سِرّاً وَجَهراً وَعَدلِ قِسمَتِهِ
