1. Your lessons are new graves dug,
In them are bodies kept still.
١. وَعَظتَكَ أَجداثٌ خُفُت
فيهِنَّ أَجسادٌ سُبُت
2. And the worn tells you,
From them tongues of the silent.
٢. وَتَكَلَّمَت لَك بِالبِلى
مِنهُنَّ أَلسِنَةُ صُمُت
3. And it showed you your grave in the graves,
While you are alive, you did not die,
٣. وَأَرَتكَ قَبرَكَ في القُبو
رِ وَأَنتَ حَيٌّ لَم تَمُت
4. And it is as if I see you from near,
A hostage of death inescapable.
٤. وَكَأَنَّني بِكَ عَن قَريـ
ـبٍ رَهنَ حَتفٍ لَم يَفُت
