1. By Allah, oppression is blamable
And the evildoer remains the oppressor

2. We shall go to the Judge on the Day of Judgment
Where adversaries gather before Allah

3. For a matter the nights have no control over
And a matter the stars cannot change

4. We shall know in Reckoning, when we meet
Before God, who is to blame

5. Some people will lose the will to live
And worldly worries will cease

6. You blame foolishness yet you are most foolish
Seeking righteousness without patience

7. Yet the righteous are forebearing
You sleep heedless of death

8. Awaken to death, o oblivious one
Tomorrow you die happy and content

9. Oblivious, afloat in seas of neglect
You play, unaware of annihilation

10. While you yourself do vanish
No living being in this world lasts

11. You seek eternity in the home of death
Yet how many have failed to achieve what you seek

12. Ask the days about nations now past
History and relics will inform you

13. You cannot free yourself from merciless time
Its claws clutch your heart violently

14. When you say, “I have shouldered sorrow,”
Swarms of worries spawn from it

15. No living soul is disgraced when just
Nor are the unjust made mighty by injustice

16. Things follow their course for he who is used to them
And habits, my friend, have consequences
