1. Have you not seen how death parades all creatures?
You see no one remain so you would hope to remain.

2. For every living person, death has a decree
To which he comes when his sustenance is complete.

3. Stock up from this life, for you are heading
To the final goal; make truthfulness your steed,

4. Take from this life what suffices you; be good
To your brother; take the gentle way; leave the rugged.

5. For I have seen a man deprived of his share
Of religion and life when deprived of gentle care.

6. Do not restrict all praise to those unworthy;
Do not abandon holding fast to the secure handhold.

7. No good in one who does not give generously of his bounty,
No good in one whose face is never cheerful and friendly.

8. A man is not deficient in merit
If he fears the Merciful and follows the truth.
