1. To be safe is to accept what's been decreed
Who is content will be safe, God willing, indeed

2. A man may hope though hopes are often lies
And hopes persist for one until he dies

3. Oh Lord, here are mourners weeping o’er the dead
Not long ago it was they who tears were shed

4. And one who laments will soon lament no more
When it is said, alas he's gone before

5. The knowledge I will taste of death severs
The sweet in life, and life feels not so sweet

6. Many a brother is now but food for worms
Though life once fed his hopes and kept them firm

7. With death memory of the dead then fades
Who's long unseen is as one no more delayed

8. When one has died men's hopes in him then die
Left to neglect when no more expected nigh

9. It troubles me to leave this mortal world
Though I depart I wished a while to stay

10. All praise to God! Joy to the fortunate!
Without God's guidance miserable one's fate

11. How heedless some are of death's coming tide
Morn and eve riding what shall be their ride

12. What is seen shall cease though now clearly viewed
All that appears only to disappear
