1. Is there no intercessor with the Caliph who might intercede
And ward from us the evil that is feared?
١. أَلا شافِعٌ عِندَ الخَليفَةِ يَشفَعُ
فَيَدفَعَ عَنّا شَرَّ ما يُتَوَقَّعُ
2. And though in ardent hope I have great fear
As though drawn swords were hanging o'er my head.
٢. وَإِنّي عَلى عُظمِ الرَجاءِ لَخائِفٌ
كَأَنَّ عَلى رَأسي الأَسِنَّةَ تُشرَعُ
3. Moses unmerited fills me with affright -
Though none more ample mercy shows than Moses' sight
٣. يُرَوِّعُني موسى عَلى غَيرِ عَثرَةٍ
وَمالي أَرى موسى مِنَ العَفوِ أَوسَعُ
4. And none feels safe at mom or eve, though he
Should to the Prince of True Believers flee.
٤. وَما آمِنٌ يُمسي وَيُصبِحُ عائِذاً
بِعَفوِ أَميرِ المُؤمِنينَ يُرَوَّعُ
