1. Think before you regret,
For you are mortal, know this.
١. تَفَكَّر قَبلَ أَن تَندَم
فَإِنَّكَ مَيِّتٌ فَاعلَم
2. Do not be deceived by this world,
For even its health becomes ill.
٢. وَلا تَغتَرَّ بِالدُنيا
فَإِنَّ صَحيحَها يَسقَم
3. Its newness becomes worn,
Its youth becomes old.
٣. وَإِنَّ جَديدَها يَبلى
وَإِنَّ شَبابَها يَهرَم
4. Its bliss fades away,
So leaving its bliss is wisest.
٤. وَإِنَّ نَعيمَها يَفنى
فَتَركُ نَعيمِها أَحزَم
5. And who is it that remains
Safe from disasters or secure?
٥. وَمَن هَذا الَّذي يَبقى
عَلى الحَدَثانِ أَو يَسلَم
6. I have seen people become followers
Of those with money and coins.
٦. رَأَيتُ الناسَ أَتباعاً
لِذي الدينارِ وَالدِرهَم
7. And a person has only what
He intended in good, or put forth.
٧. وَما لِلمَرءِ إِلّا ما
نَوى في الخَيرِ أَو قَدَّم
