1. O you who are absorbed in worldly pleasures
Tell me, for whom do you immerse yourself in them?

2. You have immersed yourself in temporal things
And overindulged, O glutton!

3. You have committed all kinds of wrongdoing
Yet you think you are doing good

4. I have never seen you be at peace
And settled into life, tranquil and composed

5. O dweller of rooms, what home do you have
Other than your grave, as a dwelling?

6. Today you boast and show off
Adorned and self-important

7. Yet tomorrow you will be laid in a tomb
Embalmed and shrouded

8. Repent sincerely to your Lord
For the path to Him is open to you

9. And turn your desires to fearing Him
In private and in public

10. It is as if your person never existed
Among people when you are buried

11. And as if your family intensely grieved
And lamented over you

12. But when a week has passed
It is as if they never mourned

13. People are heedless
As the mill of mortality grinds away

14. There is no fortress against fate's wheel
Except for one who takes refuge in God
