1. Many a matter seems bad then turns out well,
And so it is, life's taste is sweet and sour.
١. رُبَّ أَمرٍ يَسوءُ ثُمَّ يَسُرُّ
وَكَذاكَ الأُمورُ حُلوٌ وَمُرُّ
2. And so it is, men stumble with distress,
Some grieve, while some feel nought but joy's caress.
٢. وَكَذاكَ الأُمورُ تَعثُرُ بِالنا
سِ فَخَطبٌ يَمشي وَخَطبٌ يَكُرُّ
3. How strange is this world to one who yearns for more,
How odd is this world and the lure it still holds!
٣. ما أَغَرَّ الدُنيا لِذي الأَمرِ فيها
عَجَباً لِلدُنيا وَكَيفَ تَغُرُّ
4. For worldly guile there are tempting traps galore,
And into its traps it leads and enfolds.
٤. وَلِمَكرِ الدُنيا خَطافيفُ لَهوٍ
وَخَطاطيفُها إِلَيها تَجُرُّ
5. Rare is the soul who leaves what he holds dear,
Except with heart gripped tight by sadness and fear.
٥. وَلَقَلَّ اِمرُؤٌ يُفارِقُ ما يَع
تادُ إِلّا وَقَلبُهُ مُقشَعِرٌّ
6. When you accept what God has willed to be,
No harm can touch you, for your heart is free.
٦. وَإِذا ما رَضيتَ كُلَّ قَضاءِ ال
لَهِ لَم تَخشَ أَن يُصيبَكَ ضُرُّ
