1. O you who see clearly and hear perfectly
You are deceived by vanity and desire

2. How can one with vision be blind to the path?
Strange that one with hearing would turn deaf!

3. Why can we not gather wealth forever
When death comes, we cannot resist

4. Eating, drinking, building castles - we love them all
Gathering possessions and different joys

5. Yet death swiftly approaches
Neither the lofty mansions nor the lowly hovels can escape

6. Every living being will reluctantly taste death
Then after death comes a terrible day

7. How can we play and take comfort in a life
That will be taken back from us, extracted?

8. We gather the fading trifles of wealth
And forget the one to whom we must return

9. In a place where all eyes will be humbled
And the greatest kings will bow down
