1. Alas! Brothers are only during adversities,
And no good is in the affection of the flattering friend.

2. By your life! Of all life, nothing pleases my eyes,
More than an agreeing friend.

3. And every friend whose love is not for God,
I am not confident in his affection.

4. Love, my brother, one whose religion is sound,
And furnish him with whatever he desires of creations.

5. And abstain from one in whom is disgrace and doubt,
And know that God, as long as I live, is my Provider.

6. The purest of brothers is every agreeing one,
Who is patient with what escapes him during adversities.
