1. Oh my sorrow, for your sorrow, oh my friend
Oh my woe for you, and oh my lament
١. أَيا غَمّي لِغَمِّكَ يا خَليلي
وَيا وَيلي عَلَيكَ وَيا عَويلي
2. It grieves me that you do not see me
And I do not see you, nor my messenger
٢. يَعِزُّ عَلَيَّ أَنَّكَ لا تَراني
وَإِنّي لا أَراكَ وَلا رَسولي
3. That you are in a place of harm and distress
And there is no way for me to meet you
٣. وَأَنَّكَ في مَحَلِّ أَذىً وَضَنكٍ
وَلَيسَ إِلى لِقائِكَ مِن سَبيلِ
4. And that I have no power to ward it off from you
And I was struck by the momentous events
٤. وَأَنّي لَستُ أَملِكُ عَنكَ دَفعاً
وَقَد فوجِئتُ بِالخَطبِ الجَليلِ
