I played, and death sought me in my pursuit,

لقد لعبت وجد الموت في طلبي

1. I played, and death sought me in my pursuit,
Yet in death I find respite from play.

١. لَقَد لَعِبتُ وَجَدَّ المَوتُ في طَلَبي
وَإِنَّ في المَوتِ لي شُغلاً عَنِ اللَعِبِ

2. If my thoughts were occupied with my end,
I would not covet the world nor seek it.

٢. لَو شَمَّرَت فِكرَتي فيما شُلِقتُ لَهُ
ما اِشتَدَّ حِرصي عَلى الدُنيا وَلا طَلَبي

3. Glory to Him whom nothing equals,
For those who covet the world live in toil.

٣. سُبحانَ مَن لَيسَ مِن شَيءٍ يُعادِلُهُ
إِنَّ الحَريصَ عَلى الدُنيا لَفي تَعَبِ
