1. O my two companions, do not blame
Abdullah excessively for his faults

Woe to me from my people

4. I am the maiden of Hayy from Wāʾil
In noble and lofty lineage

5. Among the clan of Shaybān, people of Hijāz
There is no maiden like me

6. Oh, would that I had seen a matchmaker
To match me today to a stallion

7. Woe is me, longing for ʿAmrud
Who joins my anklet with my necklace

8. I met him privately one day

Riding comfortably on a mule

A husband, and no permission for husbands”

14. O Daughter of Maʿn the Benevolent, do not be ignorant
Where is withholding from ignorance?

15. You blame people while you are a man
Who is blamed from behind and from the front

16. It is not fitting for people to attribute
Generosity to one known for stinginess

17. He gives what people of bounty
Refuse - this is the utmost generosity

18. I have not said this about you, except
The pens had already written it before me
