1. People in religion and worldly life have degrees
And wealth is between stalled and convulsing
١. الناسُ في الدينِ وَالدُنيا ذَوّ دَرَجِ
وَالمالُ ما بَينَ مَوقوفٍ وَمُختَلِجِ
2. Whoever lives, spends much of his prime
And for straits are doors of relief
٢. مَن عاشَ قَضّى كَثيراً مِن لُبانَتِهِ
وَلِلمَضايقِ أَبوابٌ مِنَ الفَرَجِ
3. If it is too narrow for you, God's earth is spacious
In the face of every strait is an alleviating aspect
٣. مَن ضاقَ عَنكَ فَأَرضُ اللَهِ واسِعَةٌ
في وَجهِ كُلِّ مَضيقٍ وَجهُ مُنفَرِجِ
4. The sleeper may catch up with the guide in his sleep
Yet the brother of spirits and shadows may fail
٤. قَد يُدرِكُ الراقِدُ الهادي بِرَقدَتِهِ
وَقَد يَخيبُ أَخو الرَوحاتِ وَالدَلَجِ
5. The best of methods in needs is the most successful
And the narrowest of affairs is the closest to relief
٥. خَيرُ المَذاهِبِ في الحاجاتِ أَنجَحُها
وَأَضيَقُ الأَمرِ أَدناهُ مِنَ الفَرَجِ
6. I have known, though I fell short in my deeds
That the son of Adam is not devoid of excuses
٦. لَقَد عَلِمتُ وَإِن قَصَّرتُ في عَمَلي
أَنَّ اِبنَ آدَمَ لا يَخلو مِنَ الحُجَجِ
7. How can one be devout without qualm
None fears God but everyone with qualm
٧. أَنّى يَكونُ تَقِيّاً غَيرُ ذي حَرَجٍ
ما يَتَّقي اللَهَ إِلّا كُلُّ ذي حَرَجِ
