1. I boast, and your lineage suffices you, pride
Your glory from inheritance and gain suffices you

2. If preserving lineages were not honoured
Your favour would suffice you to be attributed to ancestry

3. And we saw Allah's Messenger as nobler than
Those we count though attributed to the Arabs

4. So let the state of Egypt pride itself on supporting
The best son and father from Sa`d's family

5. With shrewdness and courage their victory brings honour
Honour against the vicissitudes of time and fate

6. Two rains, if they pour lions, if they pounce
Lavish on people with gifts and wounds

7. He is the guarantor, but has guaranteed for him
The father of cavaliers, successful is the effort and request

8. If his enemies had not plotted against his request
He would not have settled into the noblest positions

9. And no ordeal has come to him from the days
Except your sword relieves it of hardship

10. In dangerous situations, you did not fail when you attended
And the cub, if it defends, the lion did not fail when absent

11. The affairs of the kingdom revolved around you in their entirety
Does a mill wheel revolve except around a pole?

12. Through it the treasures of the shining sun have risen
Or like the outshining of the sharp sword

13. How many convoluted affairs of fate convened
Your good fortune undid from them the knot of sin!

14. Every day to the enemies setting forth
The back complaining of saddle and strap

15. And an army rushing like torrents
Either to high ground or a downpour in the land

16. Lu’lu’ah would have been alive, frightened of no
Living man, and an upright folk without divergence

17. And often they persisted in aggression and scorned
To heed the Scripture and threats of books

18. How many kings of the age before you
Called them to protection but they did not listen or respond

19. Until Abu al-Futuh, guaranteed by whose swords
Was the opening of the door to the mighty stronghold

20. Dispatching armies gradually, they set forth
In attacking them, flock after flock like the starling flocks

21. And you were the last arrow in his quiver
And the frightening horseman protecting the tribe’s hindmost part

22. And they had no more strength or ability
And their command was in disorder and chaos

23. Until you rose up and their pillars did not rise
And terror fluttered in the breast and shoulder

24. And report of you went ahead
Which was the vanguard of that panic and alarm

25. A people have no shame if they disobey
The father of cavaliers fearing you by flight

26. If you had sparked the flame of resolve, intent upon
Waging war on the stars, the meteors would have feared

27. Lu’lu’ah is not on par with it
But you are the sea, a flooding, and it a mere heart

28. And if I described them as weak, I would not attribute
To you the honour in subduing and conquering

29. Breaking the column is the opening you forced
For the pillar of kingship and authority to bow to you

30. You have a hand over the necks of soldiers that tongues
Of eras and epochs thank you for

31. Through you God restored their fiefdom and indeed
What is past has vanished to the ends

32. And traces of your favours will thank you
Among Egypt’s army like the prairie thanks the clouds

33. You have ennobled people with good, so fulfilling your debt
Is an obligation on the verses and sermons

34. And the prestige of literature has increased
Since you have made the value of culture precious after cheapness

35. Your poet who praises you for what
Has elated servants needs no lies

36. When you relieved the king’s conscience of fatigue
Poems became occupied with serving you
