1. O unleasher of flowing tears
O restrainer of burning sighs

2. Why do your tears flow like spilled water
With which you kindle the fire of your burning love?

3. Do not take me as an example of sorrow
For I have abundant emotions and motifs

4. Lower your wing over me if my affliction weighs heavily
And show me kindness in my breast and consolation

5. If the choice is in your hand, I am submissive
Having left no choice nor made one

6. Every day I have confused yearnings
Leading after discourse to further discourse

7. I promised my tears to settle but my heart betrayed me
To its sorrows, it gives no peace

8. Does the scorner walking in affliction think
That great sorrows can be small?

9. The tears from my eyelids shine
Alas! As the currents swell

10. The world was eclipsed when he passed away Thursday
With the blows of fate smiting him while still young

11. How lonesome is the world after you departed
The pole on which the world spins

12. You revived the abodes of honors and bounties
Adorning fresh youth in desolate lands

13. Biers stumbling in thy funeral
Eyes blinded seeing your coffin

14. The people stood under your coffin
Its nobility lowering the highest ranks

15. The imam walked before it so I knew
The Pure Five had bid it farewell

16. Kings walked shoeless after
The angels had enveloped it in light

17. As if it were the coffin of Moses stored
With tranquility and dignity on its sides

18. But it contained only the remainder of the symbols of Islam
The righteous chosen one

19. They laid him to rest in the ministry until
An honored residence is built for his noble transport

20. So when it is erected and appointed
A monument whose sanctuary is sought and visited

21. And the two Holy Precincts will vie
Jealously with his coffin and the generous one

22. Egypt preferred the honor that
Other lands envied for its precincts

23. And made it a refuge for him and haven
To which pilgrims journey seeking reward

24. This sublime soul has now clung to it
So your pardon has favored it

25. You have shown us the beauty of your forgiveness, that it
Is a sanctuary, and that you pardon abundantly

26. And your father is foremost before his tomb
The command is yours, protected and binding

27. So one who inherits the nights after us may say
Mortality fades but monuments endure

28. Your father was too great to be compared to the greatest
He sacrificed al-Kaẓimiyya for their neighborhood

29. Where is al-Farazdaq compared to your summit or Ghalib
Or Darami or Ya’rub or Nizar?

30. You said, when they transported him in death
The abode and shore of visitation were moved

31. It was only the sword sheathing itself
With other than it, it being the sharp piercing one

32. The moon left its orbit changed
To one in which lights shine

33. The rain irrigated a land then turned away
To another, its pouring clouds abundance

34. O Veiler of Glories from His Majesty
What has made you lift the curtains?

35. Why do I see visitors in chaos after reverence
No permission or asking leave?

36. I guarantee the family of Muḥammad and their Guardian
From where their Guardian knew rejection

37. God was angry with the men who ignorantly transgressed
And others who suggested

38. Do not wonder at the fate of righteous Salih
For every era has its righteous one and its fate

39. And the two Dynasties were ashamed
That the Whites had ignorantly transgressed against them

40. And I lamented how I singly worshipped
While my masters and freedmen

41. They ambushed you in narrow straits so neither
Qatari has latitude nor Khataari

42. Their tenure was too short for the likes of it
Had you been left unrestricted and free to choose

43. The works of your hands have fulfilled for you something great
Amaru with his praise giving joy to friends

44. And he remained steadfast with mighty determination
Against their abandonment, had fate allowed

45. Their feet stumbled before you in awe
Had servile natures not clung to them

46. Abu al-Hasan fulfilled his pledge to you
When his sister’s oath was forsworn on the left and right

47. Your in-laws disappeared, confident, but he did not
As if by his presence they were present

48. Do not ask but about the blows of his sword
For news may increase and decrease

49. He met his death before your face unarmed
His forehead bare of covering

50. When the swords fell from his grip
And spears slipped and the thongs slackened

51. He threw himself as a shield to protect you
As the sharp blades and swords pierced you

52. Had he not drank the cup of evil
Then his heart would have been drunk with sorrow for you

53. This was a halt in the fate of the generous, praised be God
And blame and shame on those men

54. You have lodged in an abode of unending bounty
And ruin dwells with those who killed you

55. Oh, would that your eyes had seen their state after
And saw what they had become

56. Just retaliation took them, unavenged
Not content with amends—where is clemency from the heavens?

57. The expanses of desolation narrowed around them
Perhaps the enemy sleeps but vengeance does not

58. They fancied that flight would save them
Yet from fate where is flight?

59. They fled but Abu Shuja’ extended his snare
So they were like those who never took flight

60. Now the life of the wilderness is long
Flowing to its ends

61. Then delight in the great reward and death
That the virtuous have trod before you

62. The Heir died by it, as did your uncle Hamza
The Son of the Maiden and Ja’far the Flyer

63. That is good fortune and martyrdom and sublimity
Living and dead, this is pride

64. The most wondrous consolation after you
Without whom sublimity has no stability

65. Without the beauty of his affliction the torrents
Of evil would burst and the lands crumble

66. It enabled the preservation of Ahmad’s nation
Made prosperous by him, homelands and wilds

67. The Guiding, Judicious Ruler whose virtues
Are our age’s excuses for its faults

68. A king whose sword and speech
Vanquish all defiant tyrants

69. He united dissenting hearts in consent
The sword and dinars uniting them

70. Those two, if they establish a regime
It endures and its command lasts

71. But if they split and do not back each other
The enemy grows bold and the partisans weak

72. O He who fulfills vows pledged
Now the fulfillment and passage to him

73. His obeyed commands proceed
However origination and issuance judge

74. The guarantee and ministry have never ceased
To signal his merit day after day

75. They were bound to you, averting threats
When not confronting threats

76. Until, alighting before you, witnessing
A possession whose sword glitters majesty

77. They cast down their staffs within your reach
Bared themselves of saddle and saddlebags

78. God, your conduct which you dictate
Chronicled in verse and poetry!

79. My heart prays in praise of it
While behind me burns a wound and affection

80. Horses do not please you but when
They race and the track bears them away

81.
You know my praise has lasted long without

82. My works attaining any freshness
If misfortune keeps me from your side

83. The least of them extends excuses
For I believe firmly in good fealty
